The Vital Necessity of Accurate Position Descriptions
Each position description (aka job description) is like a blueprint for a room in a multi-story building. Not only should position descriptions (PDs) accurately describe a role, but they should be the benchmark against which all recruitment, performance management, staff development, payroll, supervision, leadership, compliance, and other operational requirements depend.
It is no longer acceptable to develop PDs by cutting and pasting from old documents. Neither can roles be developed around individuals or the term 'and other duties as required' be included without putting the organisation at risk of IR and other violations.
Developing clear, bespoke, compliant, operational position descriptions that reflect the organisation's needs, builds in employees' rights and internal and external governance requirements is a complex undertaking. Get them right, and position descriptions will support all the organisation's activities. Get them wrong, and they will cause all manner of ongoing, costly internal problems.
This module highlights the pitfalls associated with PD development and explains how to create bespoke, compliant operational position descriptions for daily use.
Pre-requisite: Successful completion of either set of the 4 Foundation modules.
